  • Let your client see that the muscles work similarly during the opening and closing motions
  • The main difference comes when the jaw clenches. In a stable bite, with the jaw fully seated, the positioning muscles are relaxed. In the destructive bite, with the jaw not fully seated, the positioning muscles contract to hold the condyle on the slope of the eminence. The normal coordinated and independent function of upper and lower pterygoids is lost and muscle hyperactivity results.
