Animation - Sleep Apnea with Chipping
When we first released our sleep apnea animation, Dr. Fred Peck observed that a side effect of sleep apnea for some patients is that their upper incisors are chipped but that it’s difficult to explain why this is happening - particularly if the patient doesn’t yet acknowledge that they could be suffering from sleep apnea.
So this month’s animation illustrates how, when someone partially wakes up because they aren’t breathing, they can jerk their jaw forwards in an attempt to open their airway. In doing this the lower incisors hit on the upper incisors which can cause the chipping.
Thank you Dr. Peck for helping us put this animation together!
